Automotive Minute: Nissan backs TITAN, TITAN XD with 5-year/100,000-mile warranty (SLIDESHOW)

In an effort to boost truck sales, the nation’s second largest car company has announced a five-year/100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty on all 2017 Nissan TITAN and TITAN XD models.
The new warranty offer tops competitors’ offers by two years and over 65,000 miles and comes at a time of great opportunity for Nissan. Though July 2016, the company has sold just 7,242 TITAN and TITAN XD trucks this year compared to Toyota’s 65,440 Tundras and Ford’s 460,901 F-Series sales.

“The new bumper-to-bumper coverage shows customers that Nissan stands behind the quality of its vehicles – including the ones that are subject to the hardest use,”said Fred Diaz, division vice president and general manager of Trucks and Light Commercial Vehicles for Nissan North America Inc.
Nissan has stood behind its vehicles before with a long-term warranty. In June 2014, Nissan introduced “America’s Best Commercial Van Warranty” giving new NV Cargo and Passenger vans five years/100,000 miles of assurance. Nissan attributes the warranty to driving sales, with Nissan NV Cargo and Passenger van sales up nearly 10 percent so far in 2016 and NV200 cargo van sales increasing 17 percent through July.
In Carmel, Calif., last month, Nissan unveiled the new Single Cab options for the TITAN and TITAN XD, projected to be attractive to fleet managers. They will join the crew cab variants of the trucks when Nissan’s full 2017 pick-up truck line arrives in dealerships in late fall 2016.
The additions to Nissan’s truck line-up are assembled in the United States. The new Single Cab models will be assembled in Canton, Miss. with its 5.6-liter V8 gasoline engine assembled in Decherd, Tenn. Cummins, Inc. assembles their 5.0-liter diesel engines in Columbus, Ind.
